Biratnagar, Oct 10: Police have arrested 24 South Korean nationals in Morang for allegedly engaging in religious activities while staying in Nepal on tourist visas.
The group was arrested in Sundarharaicha after police found them participating in religious training at Nepal New Covenant College on Malati Marg in Sundarharaicha Municipality 7 on Friday.
Police said preparations are underway to send the detained South Koreans to the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
Morang Police Chief Kabit Katwal said they were detained after authorities found them participating in religious activities despite entering Nepal on tourist visas.
“They came on tourist visas but were found engaging in religious activities. They cannot enter the country for one purpose and engage in another activity,” Katwal said.
The South Korean nationals had arrived in Biratnagar via Kathmandu on October 6 and 7. Their itinerary showed that they planned to remain in Morang until October 12.
According to police sources, Nepal New Covenant College, operated with support from Love Nepal Mission, provides Christian religious education.
The Department of Immigration will determine what action will be taken against the detained South Korean nationals.
