Rubi Kumari Thakur elected Vice Speaker of Parliament

Kathmandu, April 10: Rubi Kumari Thakur, a Member of Parliament from the Shram Sanskriti Party, has been elected as Deputy Speaker.

Saraswati Lama of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has been defeated in the election for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. In the election held today, Rubi Kumari secured victory by defeating RPP’s Saraswati Lama. Out of 257 members present, Rubi Kumari received 215 votes, while Lama received only 5 votes. Rubi Kumari was supported by the ruling parties—the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepali Congress, and the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). The CPN-UML did not vote for any candidate. Although UML has 25 members, a total of 37 votes were cast as neutral.
