Kathmandu, April 3: The government has arranged special flights starting today (April 3) to rescue Nepali citizens in West Asia and ease travel to and from the region. The decision comes under the direction of Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, with Nepal Airlines set to operate the flights.
One Nepal Airlines aircraft will fly from Kathmandu to Dubai on April 3 and return on April 4. Another flight is scheduled for April 5, operating Kathmandu–Dammam–Kathmandu, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The move follows a high-level meeting held on March 31, 2026, initiated by Minister Khanal, with participation from officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, and Nepal Airlines. The meeting discussed ways to facilitate the rescue and movement of Nepali nationals in West Asia and ensure necessary air services.
Regular flights to the region have remained suspended since February 28, 2026, due to ongoing tensions and security concerns in West Asia.
Earlier, on April 1, a Kuwait Airways flight landed at Gautam Buddha International Airport carrying 291 passengers, along with the bodies of nine Nepali nationals who had died in Kuwait due to reasons unrelated to the current situation.
