Mustang, Sept 15: The Gharapjhong Climate Conference 2026 begins in Mustang on Tuesday, bringing together representatives from local governments and district coordination committees from across the country to discuss climate related challenges.
Agriculture, Forest and Environment Minister Gita Chaudary is scheduled to inaugurate the two day conference at the Jomsom Covered Hall.
By Monday evening, representatives from 421 local governments and 36 district coordination committees had arrived in Mustang. More than 2,000 participants and guests from all seven provinces are expected to attend, with local hotels providing accommodation.
Gharapjhong Rural Municipality has mobilised youth clubs, mothers’ groups and other local organisations to help manage the event. All five wards have been decorated with traditional cultural displays, while street lighting, health services and volunteers have been arranged around the venue.
Municipality information officer Bijay Sanjyal said organisers had made arrangements to ensure uninterrupted electricity, drinking water and internet services throughout the conference.
A large installation depicting a suffering Earth has been placed inside the conference hall to highlight the effects of climate change.
The conference will also promote Mustang’s agricultural products. More than 50 stalls have been set up to showcase local produce, according to section officer Roshan Thakali.
Organisers said the conference will conclude with a declaration outlining commitments and priorities on climate action at the local level.
