Kathmandu, March 28: The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile (Central Tibetan Administration), Penpa Tsering, has congratulated Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
In the message issued from Dharamshala, Tsering extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Tibetan people and the Central Tibetan Administration to Shah, who took the oath of office on March 27, 2026.
In the letter, he stated: “Your emergence as the youngest Prime Minister, following the recent Gen-Z-led movement, is a powerful symbol of the aspirations of the Nepali people, especially the younger generation.”
The message also recalled the historical and spiritual ties between Nepal and Tibet. He praised the generosity of the Government and people of Nepal, noting the contributions made by the Tibetan community living in Nepal while preserving their identity and contributing to social and economic sectors.
Tsering expressed his best wishes for Prime Minister Shah’s successful tenure and voiced confidence that under his leadership, Nepal will move toward progress, prosperity, and positive transformation. He also expressed hope that friendly relations between the two sides will be further strengthened.
Along with the September 8 and 9 Gen Z movement, the Tibetans are intensifying their activities and expressing their closeness with the governments formed after the Gen Z unrest. Earlier, when Sushila Karki was named the prime minister of the interim government, the Tibetan administration in exile had extended congratulations. Again, the very Tibetan administration in exile has extended congratulations to Balendra Shah.
Such activities have sparked suspicion of the Chinese government about Nepal’s China policy.
