Election Commission spends Rs above 3.5 billion in HoR elections

Kathmandu, March 19: The Election Commission has made public the expenditure details of the House of Representatives election held on March 5.

According to the Commission, a total of NPR 3 billion 54 crore 28 lakh 796 has been spent so far on the election.

The Commission had requested NPR 7 billion 81 crore 5 lakh 76 thousand for election purposes. Of this, it received resource approval of NPR 6 billion 76 crore 66 lakh 90 thousand from the Ministry of Finance. The Commission stated that although financial liabilities have been created, some payments are still pending.

According to the Commission, in order to make election spending economical, a policy was adopted to use materials previously procured by the Commission. Additionally, procurement of materials was carried out through agreements with government-owned organized institutions.

Out of 50 types of election materials, 37 types were procured directly by provincial and district election offices, while 13 types were purchased by the Commission and transported to the districts.
