Kathmandu, March 15: The Shram Sanskriti Party led by Harka Sampang, which emerged as the fifth largest party in the latest House of Representatives election, has decided to recommend four lawmakers under the proportional representation system to the Election Commission Nepal.
According to party central member Samir Tamang, the party has recommended Mandira Moktan of Hetauda under the indigenous women cluster, Ambika Sangraula under the Khas Arya women category, Radhika Ramtel of Surkhet under the Dalit quota, and former Gurkha soldier Purna Limbu under the indigenous Janajati category.
The party received 385,902 votes under the proportional system and also won three seats through direct elections. With this, the party will now have a total of seven members in the House of Representatives.
Under the direct voting system, Sampang won from Sunsari 1, Dhruvaraj Rai from Bhojpur, and Aren Rai from Khotang.
The selection of proportional lawmakers had triggered disputes within the party as many leaders were seeking nomination.
Amid the internal disagreement, candidates Jeevan Bista and Meena Singak announced through Facebook that they were withdrawing their names from the proportional closed list.
As lobbying for PR seats intensified earlier, Sampang had publicly expressed dissatisfaction on Facebook and warned that those pressuring the party for nominations could face expulsion.
