16,000 Nepalis in Middle East register online in one day as security concerns grow

Kathmandu, March 5: Amid growing security tension in West Asia, around 16,000 Nepali citizens living in the region have registered their details in a newly launched online system within a single day.

The Consular Service Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs began operating the online portal on Tuesday and asked Nepalis living in West Asian countries to register their information. According to the ministry, nearly 16,000 people have already submitted their details through the system.

A notice issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that this number of registrations came within just one day of the portal going live.

The ministry said it will make the system easier to use so that more people can access it. Diplomatic missions have been directed to work with Nepali associations, community groups, and the Non Resident Nepali Association to spread information and encourage citizens to register. Officials said the information collected through the portal will help determine the type of support needed and which cases require priority.

Air strikes between Israel, the United States, and Iran are continuing in the region. Iran has been launching missile attacks on American military bases in several West Asian countries. The situation has raised concern about the safety of more than 1.7 million Nepalis living and working in those areas.

To deal with the situation, the government has formed an Emergency Response Team led by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. The team held a meeting today and made several decisions related to the unfolding situation.
