NRB asks casinos to acquire permission for forex transaction

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, has directed casinos to conduct foreign currency transactions only after obtaining permission from the central bank. In a notice issued on Friday, the central bank said casinos must secure a license before engaging in foreign exchange transactions.

According to bank spokesperson Kiran Pandit, information was received that some casinos were carrying out foreign exchange transactions without approval from the central bank.

The notice was issued to alert them, he said. The provision for granting casinos permission to conduct such transactions is mentioned in Section 4 of the “Foreign Exchange Transaction License and Inspection Regulations, 2077 (2020)” of Nepal Rastra Bank.
