Dr. Mishra’s nomination as minister put on hold

Kathmandu, Sept 22: Prime Minister Sushila Karki had recommended Additional Secretary at the Health Ministry, Dr. Sangita Kaushal Mishra, as minister, but the appointment has now run into uncertainty. Though the President’s Office had acted on her appointment, Baluwatar asked Sheetal Niwas to hold off after her controversial background became public.

According to sources at Sheetal Niwas, Baluwatar called President Ram Chandra Paudel shortly after Mishra’s name was recommended on Sunday, requesting that no decision be made in her favor.

It is unclear whether Baluwatar will now send a new name or take some other step. Mishra had resigned from her post as Additional Secretary on Sunday after learning she was to become a minister.

The controversy reportedly erupted after allegations of irregularities in medical equipment procurement surfaced against her.
