Surkhe, Sept 21 – Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel has said the KP Sharma Oli-led government was toppled because it defended the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said his clear stance during his visit to China that Kalapani, Lipu Lekh, and Limpiyadhura belong to Nepal triggered political backlash.
Speaking at an interaction organized by National Youth Association Nepal and ANNFSU in Surkhet, Kandel said, “When we asserted that the land shown in the new map belongs to Nepal, protests were staged under the name of Gen Z, which eventually led to the fall of the government.”
Kandel, a UML Standing Committee member, said standing for national interest is a matter of pride, not a crime, and urged the young generation to keep raising this issue.
“The steps taken to protect the nation’s soil were portrayed as weakness to bring down the government, but history will never reject such nationalist positions,” he said.
He stressed the need to organize the youth generation progressively, called on youth and student groups to work together to guide society positively, and reminded them that it is their duty to speak against corruption and maintain discipline.
He warned that factionalism and selfish politics weaken not just the party but the nation. The event was attended by UML provincial chair Gulabjung Shah, Surkhet district leaders, and local youth.
