Kathmandu, September 21: The party and political leaders who have been in power for a long time are still not ready to respond to the message of the Gen Z movement. Even when the younger generation agitated and toppled them from power, they did not seem ready to quit active politics by handing it over to the new generation.
The movement launched by Gen Z on September 8 wanted to start the process of keeping the ‘Father Generation’ away from politics, transforming the traditional parties by handing over to the new generation. On the Constitution Day, top leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Maoist Center were expected to announce a political retirement. But the top leaders are still preparing to be active themselves, preventing the new generation from coming to the leadership. They are devaluing the leadership emerging from the new generation.
The change is expected as the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba in the Congress, KP Oli in the UML and Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the Maoist Center has been for a long time. The general workers are also debating the transformation, transfer and generation within the party. But the elderly generation doesn’t want to hear it.
The sad part is that neither K.P. Sharma Oli, nor Sher Bahadur Deuba have regretted the killing of 74 Nepalis in an attempt to suppress the demonstration.
