Last rites after city procession for 10 Gen Z movement victims today

Kathmandu, Sept 17: The bodies of nine victims kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and one at Patan Hospital will be cremated today. A relative of one of the deceased said that the bodies will be taken around the city in a funeral procession before the cremation. Some victims of the movement have already been cremated earlier, and the remaining 10 will be cremated today.

The government has already decided to conduct the funerals with national honors. Newly appointed Home, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Om Prakash Aryal, while assuming office, had announced that those who died during the protests would be declared martyrs and given funerals with national honors.

Following this, Monday’s cabinet meeting decided to provide 1 million rupees in compensation and an additional 500,000 rupees for expenses, totaling 1.5 million rupees per victim’s family. The Ministry of Finance will transfer the amount to the victims’ families through the respective District Administration Offices.
