President asks parties to help conduct elections as constitution, parliamentary system, and democracy safe

Kathmandu, Sept 14: President Ram Chandra Paudel has stated that the constitution, parliamentary system, and federal democratic republic remain intact in the country.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, President Paudel said that after much effort in a very tense and fearful situation, a peaceful resolution has been achieved. He said that the people now have the opportunity to move towards a more advanced democracy by completing the House of Representatives elections within six months.

“Therefore, making good use of this hard-won opportunity, I sincerely appeal to all sides to calm the public, maintain order, and help complete the elections scheduled for Falgun 21,” President Paudel said.

President Paudel had appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim government on Friday. On her recommendation, he dissolved the House and announced elections for Falgun 21.

As old-party leaders began voicing dissatisfaction and criticism of his move, President Paudel issued this statement to clarify his position. He reminded that it was on their own proposal, after the Gen Z protests of Bhadra 23 and 24, that Karki was appointed interim Prime Minister.
