Nepal, China hold  “Sagarmatha Friendship” military exercise

Kathmandu, Sept 7: Nepal and China have kicked off the fifth edition of their joint military drill, known as the “Sagarmatha Friendship Exercise,” in Kathmandu.

Nepal Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet said the 10-day exercise will emphasize disaster response, humanitarian support, and the sharing of expertise between the two militaries.

This marks the third time Nepal is hosting the drills. The first exercise was held in April 2017, followed by another in 2019 in Nepal, while the 2018 edition took place in Chengdu, China. The exercises were paused in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Basnet noted that Nepal also organizes similar joint exercises with other countries, including India and the United States.
