Kathmandu, Sept 5: The United States has deported 19 Nepali nationals and handed them over to authorities at Tribhuvan International Airport on Thursday evening.
According to officials, the deportees were among a larger group of 37 facing removal orders for violating US immigration laws, but only 19 were flown in this time. The group included 17 men and 2 women, all transported on a chartered flight.
Senior Immigration Officer Anjan Nyaupane said the deportees were received by the Immigration Department at the airport and later handed over to Nepal Police.
Since Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency, a total of 234 Nepalis have been deported. Among the latest returnees was a student accused of driving under the influence, and another individual who overstayed illegally after attending a Lions Club program, allegedly engaging in unlawful work.
The 19 deportees have now been placed under the jurisdiction of the Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police for further investigation.
