Lizard in school meal sends 70 students to hospital

Mahottari, Sept 5: More than 70 students of Adarsh Secondary School in Ratauli, Pipra Rural Municipality–6, Mahottari, were taken to hospital after a lizard was found in the school meal.

According to the school management committee chairperson Om Prakash Mahato, on Thursday (Bhadra 19) a lizard was spotted in the plate of one student. The child threw away the food, went home, and informed his parents. Soon, other students also complained of nausea.

Parents and the school took all the children who had eaten the meal to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur. Emergency ward doctor Ujjwal Jha said no health complications were found, but the children were kept under observation as they were frightened.

The hospital stated that the condition of all the children is normal. Some have already returned home after treatment, while a few are still under observation.

Meanwhile, Pipra Rural Municipality chairperson Ram Janaki Yadav warned that an investigation would be carried out into how the lizard ended up in the school meal and action would be taken against those found responsible.
