RSP says Nepal’s western border at Kali River is beyond dispute

Kathmandu, Aug 29: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to form a common national position on nationalism in Parliament before his visit to China.

Speaking during zero hour at Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Parajuli said the historic fact that Nepal’s western border was fixed at the Kali River through the 1816 Sugauli Treaty cannot be a matter of dispute.

“Be it the cartographic evidence preserved at the British Library in London, such as the first British map published in 1827 by the Survey of India, or the other maps printed in 1856, 1879, and 1904,” Parajuli said, “all clearly show that the source of the Kali River is Limpiyadhura, and that very river marks Nepal’s western boundary. History has already made this document undeniable.”

He added that geographical and hydrological evidence, such as river flows, topography, local settlements, natural features, the 1961 census, administrative records of that time, and the voter list of the 1959 general election are enough to prove that Limpiyadhura belongs to Nepal.

He stressed that no agreement or activity carried out by other nations regarding Nepal’s territory without Nepal’s direct participation and consent can be valid. He further said the understanding between India and China to use the Lipulekh route without Nepal’s involvement is illegal under international law.

Parajuli also called on the government to immediately hold talks with sugarcane farmers who have been protesting at Maitighar Mandala for the past week and address their demands in a way that they never have to take to the streets again.
