Nepal must remain steadfast in safeguarding territorial integrity: Dr Upendra Gautam

Kathmandu, August 29: Dr Upendra Gautam, Secretary General of the China Study Center Nepal, has opined that Nepal must remain steadfast in safeguarding its own territorial integrity, while at the same time respecting the sensitivities of cooperation with both the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of India. “In fact, the fundamental boundary issue for Nepal with its neighbors does not concern a “transaction” raised in relation to Lipulekh, but rather the tri-junction point at Limpiyadhura”, Gautam said.

“In the forthcoming visits of Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli to China and India, and in his participation in the high-level meetings with the SCO Spirit, the issue directly linked to Nepal’s sovereign existence is precisely the tri-junction at Limpiyadhura, where the territories of all three countries converge”, Gautam remarked.

“The formal delimitation of this point has so far not done as India did not respond to Nepal`s request for participation in the delimitation work in 1961-63. The trilateral cooperation amongst them would stand as a concrete, autonomous example of good-neighborliness and multilateral collaboration in the Himalayan region—just as the China–Mongolia–Russia tri-junction was formally delimited on the basis of mutual trust, neighborly relations, and cooperative spirit. In creating such history, it is but natural that the Prime Minister should seek to become a partner in that achievement”, Gautam has pointed out.
