
Kathmandu, August 24: Cholera bacteria have been identified in patients who came for treatment in hospitals in Birgunj, Parsa. Patients with diarrhoea and cholera have been found in various wards of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality. People in Ward No. 11, 12, 13 and 16 are found suffering from cholera.
The information officer of Narayani Hospital, Dr. Khurshid Alam, said that out of the 15 suspected people in Jhadapakhala, eight were tested on Saturday and five of them were confirmed to have cholera.
According to him, all those who have been confirmed with cholera are from Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality Ward No. 12, Murli. Three cases of cholera were confirmed on Friday, with seven more confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Health and Social Development Division of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality, ten people from different parts of Birgunj have so far been confirmed to be infected with cholera caused by Vibrio cholera bacteria.
Raju Sahu, the head of the branch, said that the number of diarrhoea patients has been increasing since Friday. He said the deaths of two people who were being treated for diarrhoea were also suspected to be caused by cholera.
