Heavy rain warning: Koshi, Madhesh to get 12 hours of downpour, brief showers in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Meteorologists have warned of heavy rainfall today in the Koshi and Madhesh provinces. Associate Professor Binod Pokharel from the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University said that from this afternoon, there is a possibility of continuous heavy rain for 10 to 12 hours in Koshi and Madhesh.

According to him, there is also a chance of heavy rain in Kathmandu tomorrow morning for a short period. After that, the rainfall system will move westward. Heavy rain is expected in western Nepal tomorrow night.

Along with the rain, there is a risk of floods and landslides in the southern regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini, and other provinces.

“There is a chance of heavy rain in Madhesh and Koshi for a long time. Other provinces may experience rain for a shorter period,” Pokharel said on social media.

He advised people to avoid long road journeys tonight and tomorrow.

According to the Department of Meteorology, the monsoon system causing rainfall is currently active across the country.
