In general terms, outdoor games mainly refers to those games which we play outside in the open air. For outdoor games, several factors like weather and time must be taken into consideration, because it’s played outside. In the case of children outdoor games are not possible to play when it’s raining heavily or when it gets dark as children may fall sick or injure themselves. Examples of outdoor games are: Badminton, Cricket, Football, Basketball etc.
In today’s time and age, children tend to spend more and more time indoors. Most kids are glued to television, smartphones, and other gadgets. But watching cartoons on television or using phones for endless hours can affect their health. Being a couch potato can also lead to obesity in children. On the other hand, playing outdoor games can improve mental and physical health in children. Exposure to outdoor play can also shape their personality and help them develop essential social skills. Outdoor games are a wonderful way to help them with life skills.
The importance of outdoor games in children’s lives is explained below:

Playing outdoor games not only provides fun and excitement for kids but also benefits their physical development in various ways by enhancing gross motor skills, boosting cardiovascular health and improving bone strength.

As there are lots of benefits for children from playing outdoor games; there are several ways to encourage kids to play outdoors we can try kids’ favourite toys like modelling clay, racing cars, balls etc.; walk to a nearby market or a park, instead of driving, take our child for outings like a botanical garden or a farm; do not make the outdoor play too ‘educational’ or ‘academic’ most importantly make it fun. Let your child live like a child by letting him/her run around, jump, climb on trees, race and have fun by allowing them to play outdoor games.
