An era of righteousness?

By Narayan Prasad Mishra

Our country has experienced many political systems with varieties of constitutions. But the majority of people have not experienced any good from them. No political system has brought any good change in their lives. People feel all systems come only for the politicians in power and their friends and relatives. They got all kinds of benefits and had everything – democracy, socialism, communism, and all the benefits of all these systems. They became wealthy and prosperous.

In contrast, the majority is always in a problem. Life is always hard for them. I, too, feel the same and do not have any pleasant experiences from change.

Most people think the present world has been overshadowed by unrighteousness. In most countries, the people are suppressed, oppressed, and exploited by those in power and suffer because of that. In some countries, people are suffering with varieties of wars. Russia, with the military power of bombs and missiles, has been destroying Ukraine and has killed thousands of people. It is hard to see people suffering in that place without food and shelter. Many countries are at war. Some are in big wars like Russia and Ukraine. Some others have a civil war. The countries like Afghanistan, Columbia, Ethiopia, Mali, Myanmar, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen are involved in a civil war. Some other countries have no peace because of terrorist insurgency, ethnic violence, and the drug war. Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Iraq, Mexico, Nigeria, and South Sudan come under it. We know these are all the result of unrighteousness.

Religious scriptures say all are equal. God, our creator, loves all of us equally. We all will get justice from God if not from others. But hardly people experience it in this life. That is unfortunate for God believers.

Lord Krishna said the following in Bhagavad Gita

According to the verse above, Lord Krishna said many, many centuries ago said that he would come from time to time according to the need to eliminate unrighteousness and establish righteousness. So, remembering this, the suffering and tormented people have been thinking that the time has come for God to come and protect them. But the people like the leaders and followers of our major political parties – Nepali Congress Party, Nepal Communist (UML), Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), etc. who were and are in power and have been enjoying everything think that everything is okay and going well in Nepal and the world. God does not need to worry about the globe. He does not need to interfere in their religious activities. They themselves are appreciably protecting the people and country.

But it is for God to judge whether it is time for him to come or send his incarnation to this world if he is really somewhere in existence and is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, as the religious scriptures describe him.

I often feel unrighteousness is rampant in every corner of the globe, especially in our country. As I often have had dissatisfaction and grumble against God for his justice, decision, and verdict toward the poor, sick, needy, and helpless, I wrote the following poem in Nepali, which was published in Naya Current on September 8, 1982 (Bhadra 23, 2039). Here is the poem with its English translation.

 I Cannot Believe in God

  Narayan Prasad Mishra

When I see the tormented and exploited people

When I see the suffering people without food and clothes

When I see people without a meal

When I see brothers and sisters suffering from cold

I cannot believe in God

When I see the disparity between rich and poor

When I hear the crying of helpless people

When I see fraud’s front role in society

When I see the sycophants and conspirators are prioritized

   I cannot believe in God.

When I see exploitation and injustice everywhere

when I see the helpless have no rights anywhere

When I see the laws, rules, and reasons are not respected

When I see nepotism and favoritism everywhere

I cannot believe in God

When I see the wise and creative are neglected

When I see the wooden head and foolish are respected

When I see the anti-nationalist are established as nationalists

When I see the corruptors are rewarded with respected positions.

      I cannot believe in God

I hope God will make the people believe him, even those who doubt his existence as being naive, innocent, unwise, or foolish, by presenting his incarnations to the world soon, establishing righteousness in the globe. If he needs more time to send his incarnations to all the countries simultaneously, in that case, I request and pray to him to send his loyal and righteous representative to Nepal, giving priority, the country of many gods and goddesses and the home of Lord Pashupatinath, Mahadev, the great God. We need his blessings for Nepalese to live and for the country to survive. We need his role to eliminate demons and unrighteousness.
