Kathmandu, 13 October: A writ petition has been registered in the Supreme Court demanding the cancellation of the candidature of 9 candidates for the 20 November House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections.
Advocate Anil Acharya filed a writ demanding the cancellation of the candidature of Bijaykumar Gachchdar, Govindraj Joshi, Vikram Pandey, Prabhu Shah, Sarita Giri, Yudhbikram Tamang alias DB Tamang, Laxmi Mahato and Revatraj Puri alias Gagan.
Sunsari-3 Nepali Congress candidate Gachchdar and Tanahun-1 independent candidate Govind Raj Joshi are facing corruption cases. Similarly, there is a corruption case against RPP candidate Bikram Pandey contesting the election from Chitwan-3, DB Tamang alias Yuddha Bikram Tamang, who is a candidate from Sindhupalchok 1 (a), is on the absconding list of the police on the murder charge, Lakshmi Mahato, the candidate from Mahottari 1, is facing a murder charge.
Similarly, it is mentioned in the writ that the candidate of Rautahat-3, Prabhu Shah is associated with the murder charge of Kashi Tiwari in Birganj.
The writ petitioner Acharya mentioned that leader Sarita Giri had made controversial statements about Nepali territories Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani and Jhapa 5 (B) candidate Revatraj Puri had occupied government land.
He mentioned that even though they registered their candidacy due to the loophole in the provision regarding the disqualification of the candidates in Section 12 of the House of Representatives Election Act 2074, they are not of a clean image.
