Never we learn!

BABBLES

By Babbler

The nation is facing the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 is not a new virus for us as we have already experienced horrible days last year. The months-long lockdown not only created mental illness but also we had to suffer economically as all our regular activities were halted during the lockdown period.

Last year, immediately after the two Covid-19 positive cases were recovered in Kathmandu, the lockdown was announced along with the suspension of all the international flights, yet, we had kept our borders with India opened and the main reason behind the rapid spread of the pandemic in the country nationwide was the open border.

Many of us wrote many reports suggesting the government for regulating the Nepal-India open border. The government didn’t listen.

Today, the pandemic has already created havoc in the Indian cities and people coming from India are transmitting the deadly virus to the local residents.

Our government, our leaders and our people didn’t try to learn a lesson from the past to tackle the present health crisis! Yes, we are the brave but foolish Nepalis!

Branding local alcohol

The nation is spending a huge amount of foreign currency while importing foreign brands of alcohol.

However, in villages, the local brands are very popular. Normally, paspalum is used to make local alcohol what we say “Jaad” and “Raksi”.

A Nepali team had tried to get permission to market bottoled “Chhyang” or say “Jaad” (local beer). The team didn’t get a license for that. Later, we saw the bottle of “Chhyang” manufactured in South Korea in our market.

Although production of such local alcohol is restricted, it is easily available in the market, even in the Kathmandu Valley. If the local governments will allow permission to produce local alcohol, they could get excise duty from such products. In the meantime, a certain standard should be met by the manufacturer if they obtain a license. Furthermore, the local entrepreneurs will be able to develop their skill. After branding the local alcohol, the license holder should maintain the government’s safety guidelines.

This Babbler is happy to know that the No 1 Provincial Government has constituted a task force to conduct a feasibility study on branding and marketing of the local alcohol.

We can see licensed brothels in Thailand. It is a good source of revenue along with tourism promotion. In Nepal, we frequently read reports of rape and murder of the girl child. Let the government constitute a task force to conduct a study on whether the opening of brothels could save the lives of those innocent girl children!

Now, in Canada, marijuana farming for medical purpose is permitted. Many other countries have also legalized marijuana farming. Nepal is a fertile land for marijuana farming but it is illegal. If the government will allow marijuana farming for medical purpose, it could be a better source for ending poverty in the country! Indeed, abuse of drugs has not been checked properly!

Dr Aliya Aryal

  • The failure of civil society to rally against the corrupt and incompetent politicians of the last 15 years is one of Nepal’s tragedies – they too seem to have been effectively co-opted into the ‘establishment’

  • In 1199, the world-famous Nalanda University was set on fire. The reason was to destroy the history of Buddhism, Ayurveda and Vedic material.

Narayan Ghimire

  • Gagan Thapa’s politics is finished even if he only speaks a single word against MCC. Even a child with a simple political consciousness understands this.

Isn’t that the boy picked up by Amrikane from the street?

Rabin Dahal

  • It is the republic that has come up with a more dangerous design than the MCC, but the Nepali people consider it a great achievement. Worms like the MCC will remain alive until the Nepali people become aware of it.

Shambhu Chouhan

This present constitution is not a constitution drafted by Nepalis. This constitution should be repealed. There is no other way out.

Keshar Bahadur Bista, chairman, Rastriya shakti Nepal

  • The United States didn’t invite Nepal to the Biden’s Climate Summit, China did not invite Nepal to the Bao Summit. India decided to welcome the king instead.

Aren’t these evidence enough the pro-loktantriks (Khapraao, Makune, Chalada, Shebade, Rachapo) spoiled Nepal’s diplomatic dignity and credibility elevated by King Mahendra?

Dipak Gyawali

  • Be assured, King Gyanendra does not go to India, China or the United States for his ascension to the throne.

Keshav Prasad Bhattarai

  • Why is it called Loktantra Day today (24 April)? Today is not any special day – loktantra, janatantra or janabaad — for us. Democracy Day in this country is only on 7 Falgun. Today is the second mass movement day, in fact, today is only the day of re-establishment of the already dissolved Parliament!

Lokesh Dhakal

  • At the behest of India, Krishna Sitaula, who was not a member of the House of Representatives, forcibly entered the House and presented a draft of the republic, which was drafted by someone else!

The draft of someone else was endorsed by the Parliament under someone’s design, which is known as a fake loktantra day!

Prakash C Joshi

  • Due to the open border with India, Corona infected people are entering Nepal every day. Due to the open border, many non-Indians have entered Nepal and obtained citizenship. Nepal has become a haven for infiltrating terrorism. For sustainable security arrangements at the border, the government should take immediate steps and strict rules.
