Respect the judiciary

Some unfortunate trends appear to have developed of late that indicate a less than exemplary attitude on the party of the government in its dealing with the judiciary. Indeed, while there has for some time now been unconfirmed reports in the media and elsewhere about “pressures” being applied on the court by the executive wing matters appear to have come to a head with the recent public observations by the Chief Justice Biswowanath Upadhaya expressing deep concern over the government’s “cold” attitude towards the judiciary. To recall, the chief justice not now only went as far as publicly admonishing the Minister of Finance and the Secretary of the Finance Minister for their cavalier attitude as far as providing adequate funds for a judicial convention.
