Now, the dispute between the chairmen duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda has reached to that extent that there is no point to return for both of them. The group of five in the party secretariat — Prachanda, Madhav Nepal, JN Khanal, Bamdev Gautam and Narayankaji Shrestha – has developed a roadmap to compel PM Oli to quit from both the posts – the prime minister and party chairman. On the other hand, PM Oli has said that at any cost, he is not going to quit both the posts.
Presently, both the sections are playing a defensive strategy against each other and watching carefully against each other on what could be the next move of the rival camp.
The Prachanda-Nepal camp is planning to call the party secretariat meeting followed by the standing committee meeting and later central committee meeting to take party action against Oli. Oli, on the other hand, has warned that any move to call a formal meeting of the party secretariat could be an action to split the party.
However, on Sunday, Oli invited former UML leaders Madhav Nepal, Surendra Pandey, Bhim Rawal and Raghujee Pant to discuss on way-out from the present crisis. On his final move, PM Oli is urging former UML leaders to join hands again instead of giving party leadership to the former Maoist leaders. PM Oli has thus again lauded party’s paramount leader late Madan Bhandari formulated People’s Multiparty Proletariat to bring all former UML leaders and workers at one place.
To recall, the former Maoist group has not accepted to adopt Madan Bhandari’s idea.
Crisis of trust:
Party’s senior leader Madhav Nepal could join hands with KP Sharma Oli but personally, Oli is not a trustworthy person. He knows how to betray anybody else anytime. Earlier too, Oli had held a meeting with Nepal with the offer of party chairmanship. Oli had said that he is not going to contest the party election again and he is not interested to repeat as the PM, he had tried to convince Nepal assuring that he would support Nepal to become the party chair and also the PM at the cost of supporting him at present.
Nepal had replied that he is not eager to accept any deal on credit. However, if Oli will immediately quit the party chair for Nepal, there is a little chance of negotiation between Oli and Nepal. Nepal is lauding for one person one post from the beginning. Also, Nepal is insisting on running the government and party as per the rule of law.
Prachanda’s worry:
Prachanda is dreaming of becoming the chairman of the biggest party. However, he is worried about any possible alliance between Oli and Nepal which could corner Prachanda. Therefore, he is always playing the role to keep Oli and Nepal far away from each other. If the two leaders and old rivals will join hands, Prachanda’s politics will be ended.
It seems, from the latest developments, Oli-Prachanda partnership has already been ended. Therefore, Oli has attempted to surrender to Madhav Nepal to rescue him from the present crisis.
If the possible outlets will not work, Oli may take unconstitutional action, that could be dissolve of the parliament or declaration of an emergency or splitting the party by issuing an ordinance, say political observers.
