Word slips
After the statement on Venezuela by Pushpkamal Dahal Prachanda, American ambassador Randy Berry called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli the other day. It is learnt that Oli had wished to meet the ambassador to clarify on the government’s stance on Venezuela. Oli is learnt to have clarified that the statement by Prachanda was a “word slip” as like American President Donald Trump’s mindset that Nepal belonging to India.
Oli is learnt to have said that these are minor incidents from which Nepal-America relations should not be affected.
Against Oli’s correction efforts, Prachanda said that the statement issued by him was the authentic line of the party.
Furthermore, speaking at another occasion, Prachanda expressed his displeasure indicating towards the efforts of weakening secularism, federalism and republicanism and warned that a new Maoist will get birth pushing the nation towards yet another massive bloodbath.
Too funny to hear such remarks not from the opposition parties but from the co-chairman of the ruling party.
Further development, the next day, Prachanda wished to meet the American ambassador. The meeting took place as per Prachanda’s wish. At the meeting, Prachanda has learnt to have said to the ambassador that he was compelled to issue the statement as per the communist party’s line. However, Prachanda had regretted saying that personally he has no enmity with the US.
At the very meeting, Prachanda requested to the ambassador for an official invitation from the US government for his visit to Washington.
Prachanda also expressed the desire to meet some prominent State Department officials in Washington.
So far, Prachanda has wanted to visit America for the treatment of his spouse Sita, who is suffering from a long illness.
American mission:
Ambassador Berry played a key role to organize the official visit of Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali after a long gap.
The American mission is to bring Nepal under the Indo-Pacific Strategy by keeping Nepal distant from China initiated Belt and Road Initiative.
The Venezuela statement obviously made furious to the Americans, that too, at a time when Americans had considered Nepal’s role in Indo-Pacific Strategy. Otherwise, it was believed that the Americans were looking at Nepal from Indian eyes.
This is the reason that the ambassador was present in the meeting with the PM and also with Prachanda as he is assigned for bringing Nepal in the Indo-Pacific Strategy.
However, it seems, the Americans are confused that whether Nepal will become the active member of the Strategy or not!
Dissatisfaction with Oli:
Presently, Prachanda is in a very odd position. After the merger of the two parties – UML and Maoist – Prachanda is confused that whether PM Oli will handover the PM’s post to him or not.
Furthermore, the former UML leaders are not in a position to accept Prachanda as the leader of the government or the party.
Even in such a situation, Prachanda is unable to split the party.
Personally, Prachanda is not happy with the working style of PM Oli. It is learnt that Oli is taking vital decisions without consultation with Prachanda, co-chairman of the ruling party.
Therefore, Prachanda was waiting for a chance to take revenge on Oli. And at a time when Oli was on the way to home after urging the international community under the American grouping in Davos, Switzerland, to invest in Nepal Prachanda exploded the Venezuela bomb.
However, after three-hour long meeting between the two chairmen of the ruling party, Oli and Prachanda on Saturday, it is said that both the co-chairmen have ended the dispute and became ready to work by consulting each other.
Now, the drama has been ended for the time being by entertaining all of us.
