Journalists Thapa and Basel awarded with Govinda Biyogi journalism award

Editors Society of Nepal (ESON) has awarded journalist and editor of the Annapurna Post daily with the Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award-2075.
Accordingly, the Society has awarded news editor of the Image Channel with Govinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award-2075.
Former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal presented awards along with a letter of appreciation to Thapa and Basel amidst a function organized at Suire Chaur, Shivapuri Rural Municipality, Nuwakot on Saturday, 19 January.
At the same function senior journalists Harihar Birahai and Raghujee Pant were honoured for their contribution in the media sector.
The two awards consist the purse worth 25 thousand and 15 thousand rupees respectively.
Every year, coinciding the death anniversary of late Biyogi, founding chairman of the Society, the two awards are distributed.
The Society has started construction of the Govinda Biyogi Memorial Study Center at Suire Chour in Nuwakot, around 13 kms from Bashundhara Ringroad.
After completion of the building, local and foreign journalists can conduct their research works while staying there at very low price, according to Shyam Dotel, general secretary of the Society.
Puru Rishal, chairman of the Society urged the government to provide financial support for a noble cause of constructing a study centre for journalism.
Madhav Nepal, addressing the function, said that media sector, specially, Online portals should give information based on truth rather than decimating false information.
At the function, Sabi Pahadi donated 35 thousand rupees whereas Neera Vaidya donated one million rupees for the construction of the building.
