    Baikuntha Aryal tenders resignation

    Kathmandu, November 18: Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal has tendered resignation. Aryal, who was transferred to the National Planning Commission, submitted his resignation at the Secretariat of Chief Secretary Eknarayan Aryal. Chief Secretary Aryal’s Secretariat has sent the resignation letter to the Cabinet Meeting and Constitutional Bodies Division of the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

    Aryal joined the National Planning Commission as a special officer on Sunday afternoon. Aryal, who returned to government service after receiving a clean chit from the special court in a corruption case, was transferred to the Planning Commission by the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. After receiving the clean chit, Aryal went to the Commission and assumed the post of the Special Officer.

    The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case against Aryal for corruption in the printing of customs stickers. His suspension was revoked after he got a clean chit from a special court.

    Kathmandu, November 18: Makalu (9N-ALZ) aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation has started regular flights. The aircraft has resumed its flight after completing the maintenance of C-Check in Italy completing the international legal procedures.

    The aircraft landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport at 8: 52 am today. With the start of Makalu flights, all four aircraft with Nepal Airlines have come into operation.

    On the sad demise of ex-Speaker Damannath Dhungana, the government announced a public holiday today but due to the delayed announcement, all the schools have remained open.

    Staffers of the banks and other private and public institutions also reached their concerned offices and returned after attending their offices.

    The government is performing state honor on the late Dhungana’s last rites today.

    Ex-Speaker Dhungana passes away, last rites performing today

    Kathmandu, November 18: Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Damannath Dhungana, 83, passed away Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar, Kathmandu.

    The government has decided to provide state honor while performing his last rites today.

    The cabinet meeting is called for this morning to decide on providing state honor to the late Dhungana.

    Dhungana, a member of the 1990 constitution drafting committee, was elected from an electoral constituency in Kathmandu and became the speaker from the Nepali Congress. However, he stood above the party line after he was elected to the post of the speaker.

    Along with the dissolution of the Parliament by Girija Prasad Koirala, he was dismissed from the post.

    Dhungana was suffering from liver-related disease for some time.

    Dhungana has been survived by a wife, two sons and one daughter.

     Kathmandu, November 18: The Chhirkane-Deurali portion in Byas Municipality, Tanahun District, of the Prithivi Highway linking Kathmandu with Pokhara, will remain closed for four hours daily for 20 days.

    To accelerate the upgrading works of the Highway, it has been decided to keep close the Highway for 20 days.

    According to the schedule issued by the construction project, from 11 pm to 1 am, the road will remain closed From 1 to 1.30 am, vehicles are allowed to move. Accordingly, from 1.30 am to 4 am, the road will be closed for vehicle movement.

    Kathmandu, November 17: A team led by Director General of the Indian Armed Border Security Force (SSB), Amrit Mohan Prasad, held a meeting with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. According to the Home Minister’s Secretariat, during the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar on Sunday morning, discussions were held on the work being done by the Nepal-India Border Armed Police Force Nepal and the Indian Border Security Force (SSB) in a cordial atmosphere. During the meeting, the Home Minister emphasized the need for cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking and smuggling, human trafficking as well as criminal activities in the border areas.

    Home Secretary Gokarnmani Dwivedi, Chief of Armed Police Force Nepal, Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal and Director General of SSB Amrit Mohan Prasad participated in the meeting. Minister Lekhak urged for performing good manner by the security forces on the citizens at the border checkpoints.

    “Nepal and India have a long-standing relationship,” the Home Minister said, adding, “I am confident that the work done by the Border Security Force on the border will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

    The meeting was attended by a high-level team of SSB including the Director General. A high-level team of SSB led by Director General Prasad came to Kathmandu to attend the coordination meeting between the Armed Police Force Nepal and the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal.

    Illegal entry of third-country nationals at Nepal-India border to be stopped

    Kathmandu, November 17: Nepal is preparing to stop the illegal entry of third-country nationals on the Nepal-India border. The proposal was made at a high-level meeting of security officials of the two countries on Saturday. Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal said that the meeting, which will run until Monday, will draw common conclusions on the control of cross-border crime and the prohibition of illegal entry of third-country nationals.
    The proposal is mentioned in the Joint Agenda on Border Security presented by Inspector General Aryal.
    “Nepal’s proposal includes the control of crime in the border areas, exchange of information about it, control of revenue leakage, human trafficking and illegal entry of third-country nationals.”
    “The meeting will conclude with a conclusion tomorrow,” said Inspector General Aryal.
    The meeting was attended by a six-member team led by Inspector General Aryal, high-security officials, representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Police, Investigation Department, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director General of India’s Border Security Force (SSB) Amrit Mohan Prasad.
    In the meeting, the Indian side suggested that mutual cooperation is necessary due to problems in the identification of third-country nationals and a joint desk should be set up for this. India has made such a proposal due to the increasing trend of entering Nepal through Indian land from countries including Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Afghanistan.

    The Commission has provided details about what can be done and what not during the period of the code of conduct remains effective.

    Elections for vacant posts of the local bodies are taking place on Sunday, December 1. The Commission has set today (Sunday) for giving candidature by those contesting the election.

    Elections are taking place for the vacant posts of two chiefs of the District Coordination Committees, two Rural Municipality Chairmen, four Rural Municipality Vice Chairmen, one Chief of a Municipality and one Vice Chief of a Municipality, and 34 Ward Chairs. In total, in 44 places, the elections are taking place.

    Security organs to constitute joint border monitoring mechanism

    Kathmandu, November 17: The eighth annual Nepal-India border security coordination meeting between the Armed Police Force of Nepal and Sashastra Seema Bal of India started on Saturday, November 16, and discussed curbing cross-border crime between the two nations.

    The Indian side blamed Nepal for the illegal movement of Chinese and Pakistani nationals to India, whereas, the Nepali side blamed for the entrance of Bangali and Rohingya people into Nepal. Hence, to curb such activities in the Nepal-India borders, security officials from both countries participating in the meeting agreed to form a joint monitoring mechanism between the two security forces.

    APF Inspector General Raju Aryal and Director General of the SSB, India, Amrit Mohan Prasad lead the joint meeting being concluded tomorrow (Monday).

    Both sides discussed boundary, border, human trafficking, checking cross-border criminal activities and coordination between the two agencies in border areas, said the Home Ministry spokesman.

    Kathmandu, November 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Singh said that the newly formed two-party mechanism will make it easier to run the government. At a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union Morang Branch on Friday, DPM Singh expressed confidence that the mechanism developed by the two major parties would strengthen coordination and understanding between the parties. He said that the present government was formed through a consensus on a seven-point agreement and conducted a lot of remarkable work in a short time and the government is working according to the people’s wishes.

    DPM Singh also said that Parliament will amend the current constitution as discussions are underway to make amendments on some issues.
