    Chief Secretary Aryal suspended, Gartaula assigned officiating chief secretary

    Kathmandu, June 24: Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal has been suspended after the Commission for Investigation on Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case at the Special Court on the charge of being involved in corruption.

    After Aryal was suspended, Liladevi Gadtaula, secretary at the Council of Ministers, was assigned as the officiating Chief Secretary.

    According to the regulation, the senior secretary will be assigned as the officiating secretary until the case is finalized.

    The CIAA filed a case on Sunday, June 23, against 12 officers including chief secretary Aryal saying that they were involved in corruption during the printing of excise dutuy stickers and procurement of a security printing press. All have been suspended until the finalization of the case under the Corruption Eradication Law, 2059.

    Aryal is the first chief secretary who has been suspended on the charge of corruption in the history of the civil service.

    The CIAA, however, gave a clean chit to the then two ministers, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Mohan Bahadur Basnet, involved in the same case.

    Kathmandu, June 23: DPM and Foreign Minister Naayankaji Shrestha left for Iran to participate in the Foreign Minister-level meeting of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue.

    Shrestha left Kathmandu Saturday evening leading the members of the Nepali delegation. Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, spokesperson Amrit Bahadur Rai and other officials had seen off Minister Shrestha at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

    The meeting is taking place on June 24 in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. The Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from different countries.

    Shrestha is returning home on June 26.

    The government has recommended ambassadors to eight countries

    Kathmandu, June 21: The cabinet meeting held today has recommended ambassadors for eight countries based on partisan sharing.

    Former chief secretary Lokdarshan Regmi is recommended for the ambassadorial position to India. He is recommended from the UML’s quota.

    Four years ago, Regmi was appointed ambassador to the UK by UML’s K.P. Sharma Oli-led government.

    Chandra Ghimire is recommended as the ambassador to the USA from the UML quota. Sushil Pyakurel is recommended from the UML quota as ambassador to South Korea and Sumnima Tuladhar to Denmark. From the Maoist Center, Dr Bijaya Pant is recommended as ambassador to the UK.

    Pushparaaj Ranjitkar to Spain, Netraprasad Timilsina to Malysya, Absuphyan Khan Musalman as the ambassador to Sauti Arabia, reports Ratopati Online Portal.

    Out of eight members recommended as the ambassador, five are from the UML, one from the Maoist Center and two are from the Janata Jamaswadi Party.

    Those ambassadors recommended by the cabinet would be appointed as ambassadors by the President after the Parliamentary Hearing Committee approves the recommendation.

    Kathmandu, June 21: Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal has instructed concerned authorities for the operation of the two newly built airports in Pokhara and Bhairahawa.

    At a meeting organized at the PM’s Office in Singhadurwar today, the PM asked the concerned authorities to operate the two airports at their full capacity.

    He assured that the government led by him would be playing the role of coordinator and asked them to make every effort to operate the airports at full capacity.

    He instructed the Tourism Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority to take the issue seriously.

    The meeting called by the PM was attended by Tourism Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang, chief secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal, tourism secretary Dr Ganesh Prasad Pandey, trade and commerce secretary Dineshkumar Ghimire, revenue secretary Dr Ramprasad Ghimire, labour secretary Ghanashyam Upadhaya, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority Pradeep Adhikari were present at the meeting.

    Yoga is the best way to make the body healthy and agile and the mind clean and calm, the Prime Minister said,Through regular yoga practice, a person’s health condition is strengthened and a person becomes stress-free and functional, as well as increasing immunity, development of positive thinking in a person, discipline and internal energy in a person. Qualities that are acquired are developed.”

    “Nepal is a country with great potential for yoga tourism”, the Prime Minister said,Therefore, we should emphasize on the globalization of yoga.

    “I sincerely appeal to the practitioners of yoga and yoga gurus to take a planned initiative in this direction”, PM Dahal said.

    Kathmandu, June 21: Political parties in the alliance government agreed to share the ambassadorial posts. At a meeting among Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli and Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Ravi Lamichhane, held on Thursday at PM’s Office in Singha Durwar, they agreed to share the vacant ambassadorial posts.

    Under the agreement, the UML will get eight ambassadorial posts, the RSP will get two, and the Maoist Center will get one ambassadorial post.

    Other parties in the alliance government have not been included in the sharing of the ambassadorial posts.

    The government recently recalled 11 ambassadors politically assigned by the previous coalition government.

    Kathmandu, June 20: The Secretary General of SAARC Golam Sarwar, visited Sri Lanka from June 10-14. During the visit, Secretary General Sarwar paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry on June 14 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo. Discussions focused on ways to enhance the SAARC process further. The Secretary-General provided an update on ongoing initiatives and the challenges of SAARC, seeking Sri Lanka’s support to advance and further energise the process. Moreover, he sought the guidance of the Minister, recognizing his esteemed position as a member of the SAARC Council of Ministers, in propelling the SAARC process forward.

    Foreign Minister Sabry, acknowledging the progress achieved and appreciating the Secretary-General for his efforts, underscored the need for the Association to take further strides in strengthening regional cooperation. Recognizing the significant potential of SAARC as a regional forum, Minister Sabry emphasized its capacity to facilitate extensive regional cooperation in mutually agreed-upon domains and assured Sri Lanka’s unflinching commitment to the SAARC process. He stressed the imperative of devising strategies to enhance SAARC’s relevance, thereby garnering widespread support from the populace across the region.
