  • Change is obvious but when?

    Change is obvious but when?

    On/Off the Record

    By P.R. Pradhan

Not an odd, this is the era of cheaters, looters, corrupts and thugs. When the voters tried to punish them, those power-greedy political leaders, in the name of communism, decided to develop a “socialist front” comprised of the Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party and Unified Socialist Party, among others. Efforts are on for including other small communist parties in the front. Although, it is said that such a move has been initiated for a strong communist force but the basic idea is to elevate the unified group into the third largest force in Parliament. This is an idea of the communist parties MC, JSP and USP – the declining political forces – intensifying bargaining power in enjoying power in the government. After the formation of the front, it will emerge as a decisive force in parliament that without its support neither the Nepali Congress nor the UML can form a coalition government. Except for enjoying power, the unified socialist front has no other mission either uplifting people who voted for them or for the nation.

The Nepali Congress has already become a lame-duck party, which has forgotten its political ideology and joined hands with the communists just to enjoy power.

The leaders enjoy power and exploit government coffer, furthermore, they serve the vested interests of their foreign bosses. Clearly, for enjoying power in Nepal, they should be blessed by their bosses in Delhi.

Debates are taking place at the people’s level on the placement of a mural of “Akhanda Bharat” in the newly constructed Indian parliament building by including Nepal’s territory. Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor, countering the Indian intention, has placed the map of “greater Nepal”. Until the Sugauli Treaty, Nepal’s territory was expanded up to the Tista River in the East, the Satlaj River in the West, Ganga (Ganges) River in the South. This is a historical fact.

The 1950 Treaty scrapped all the past treaties. In this regard, the Sugauli Treaty, which had downsized Nepal’s territory by capturing 40 per cent area by the then-British rulers in India, has also been automatically suspended and legally, the “Greater Nepal” map is still valid.

Political parties in the government have remained silent over such a debate. Besides, the remarks made by our foreign minister on the placement of the “Akhanda Bharat” mural in the Indian Parliament were shameful. Speaking to Indian television, foreign minister N.P. Saud, who was in Delhi with our Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, had said that he was unaware of the controversial mural.

Furthermore, a new controversy has surfaced along with the screening of the Indian movie “Aadipurush”. There is a dialogue saying, “Janaki is India’s daughter”. Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Balen Shah, reacting to such a false claim, warned to ban all Indian movies from screening in Kathmandu until the removal of the dialogue from all the copies screening in other countries including in India.

Against Balen’s warning, Manoj Muntasir, scriptwriter of the film, talking to Aaj Tak Indian television network, made a false claim that Nepal was India’s part until 2003. He seems naïve about history. If such people try to write a script undermining history, controversy will surface. Nepali media have condemned such a false claim but our foreign puppet political parties are keeping mum. It makes clear that those leaders in power are in the process of selling this country just to prolong their stay in the government.

If we rely upon those leaders, it won’t be a surprise that one day our Nepali identity will be ended. A nation can exist only with a strong economy, strong defence and security. If we neglect these organs, it is sure, sooner or later, our Nepali identity will be lost.

If we want to save our nation and our identity, we must replace the present people having a wicked mentality in power.

We must raise against them and remove the present foreign nation serving the political system. But when we all be able to understand this fact and when we are going to launch a massive agitation against those traitors, the question remains unanswered.

  • Tomato socialism

    EDITORIAL

How do our political leaders define “socialism” we have no idea. At present, it has become a fashion to add “socialism” in between the name of political parties such as Unified Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, etc.. UML’s political manifesto also describes socialism. Moreover, the Nepali Congress describes democratic socialism. The constitution promulgated in 2015 states, “heading towards socialism”. But are we heading towards socialism? If we talk about democracy, this is no more than a “banana democracy” and if we talk about socialism, this is no more than “tomato socialism” and in fact, there is deep-rooted Kleptocracy.

The nation is importing agro-products worth trillions of rupees from abroad. If the government honestly comes to become self-reliant in agro-products, it is not a challenging task. Our farmers are helpless due to the anti-Nepal and anti-farmer policies introduced by the government. The present government policy is to discourage local farmers and encourage brokers and middlemen. Farmers growing cabbage didn’t get the price, therefore, they destroyed cabbage instead of sending them to the market. Just on Sunday morning, when locally produced tomatoes didn’t get market due to the dominating market of tomatoes imported from India, local farmers threw away tomatoes in the street. Sometimes, local milk producers are found doing the same and sometimes those poultry farmers are found destroying chickens and eggs in the streets. We didn’t see any sympathy or support from the government for the local farmers.

The government is reluctant in giving subsidies to the farmers, and, it is not keen to supply fertilizer to the farmers. The main duty of the federal government, provincial governments and local governments should have been developing markets for the agro-products grown within the country but the leaders are encouraging brokers and middlemen for exploiting farmers. The tomatoes purchased by those brokers at two rupees per kg from the farmers are being sold from the retail stores at 40 rupees, which comes to 20 times more than the price given to the farmer. Instead of protecting the farmers, the government and the political parties are protecting those middlemen and brokers. It is thus not odd in defining it as “tomato socialism”.

Indian evil eye on Bhairahawa International Airport

    BABBLES

    By Babbler

India has denied providing the shortest routes for Nepal for the smooth operation of the two newly constructed international airports – Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa and Pokhara Regional International Airport in Pokhara. Due to the Indian non-cooperation, the two airports have not been able to come into commercial operation.

Some private-sector airline companies have shown interest in operating cross-border flights to Indian destinations but the Indian authorities have shown reluctance.

According to sources, Indians want to operate these airports constructed by China under Indian management. The Indian intention is to take into the airports under its control.

Nepal and India enjoy very cordial relations, yet, the sad part is that the Indians never forget to give trouble to Nepal performing a hegemonic attitude.

    Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali

Nepali people have very little expectation. When Dharan Sub Metropolis Mayor Harka Shampang Rai brought water through a labour-donation campaign, the people in Dharan became very happy.

If other people’s representatives will also try to serve their voters like Mayor Harka Shampang, soon, Nepal would become prosperous and people become happy.

But those party workers’ priority is to loot the nation, which, they have defined — socialism.

    Where to go for justice?

According to the Nepali belief the King, teacher and father are regarded as the highly respected personalities in the society. A teacher is even ranked above the king. A teacher (Guru) is thus titled with “Sree 6” whereas the king is “Shree 5”.

In this loktantra (popularly known as loot-tantra) our ancestors’ thoughts and beliefs don’t exist.

Assistant Professor Prem Chalaune has staged a fast unto-death hunger strike in front of the office of the vice-chancellors at Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur, seeking justice or say punishment for those students who were involved in a bloody attack on him.

Helpless Chalaune knocked on the Court’s door seeking justice but the government of criminals in power decided to suspend the case. After the government decided to drop the case related to an attempt to murder against the attackers (gundas belonging to the sister organization of the Nepali Congress), Chalaune attempted to sit in at the District Court but the Police arrested him and forced him to quit the place. Now, Chaulane is launching a hunger strike in Kirtipur.

This is perhaps the example of socialism performed by those socialist leaders in the government.

    QUOTES OF THE WEEK

That was the time when the parliamentary democratic system was abducted. We were in the movement together. But later Girija Prasad Koirala himself made a hybrid constitution in 2063 BS under the 12-point Delhi Agreement which was accepted by the leaders of all the parties following the Indian wishes. The constitution is going to bankrupt the nation.

    Kamal Prasad Koirala

Prachanda, who lost his political status and became the Prime Minister with 32 MPs only by the undemocratic blessings of KP Oli and Deuba. Ambitious but weak men may be useful to the outside world, but to an independent country, such men are unproductive. Prachanda not only proved it in his case, but he also proved that the other three chieftains are mainly in his own line. However, the country will not cry at the farewell and collective collapse of these leaders.

    Yubraj Ghimire

Kaji Kalu Pandey and Senapati Shivaram Singh Basnyat were two hands of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. They made their supreme sacrifices for the noble cause of the unification of Nepal. Yet they are not declared as national luminaries. The government should recognize them as luminaries at the earliest.

    Niranjan Basnyat

The Inca Empire in Peru five hundred years ago was the most prosperous of all North American countries, left behind by the wrong policies of the Spanish Empire. Argentina was a richer country than Great Britain until the nineteenth century, but it fell behind because democracy and inclusion did not succeed. Nepal should learn something from these.

    Umesh Mainali

There is such a problem that tomatoes in Nepal do not have a market, but the nation is importing vegetables from India under the pretext of collecting customs! Until Indian vegetables are not stopped, indigenous products will not get market within the country. The government is sleeping, we the people should boycott Indian vegetables from now on!

    Harka Sampang Rai

Even in developed countries that have adopted a very liberal international trade policy, import bans or high tariffs on agricultural products have been practised.

Why the policy of unrestricted import of Indian agricultural products in Nepal (not even checking for pesticides)? Debate on this topic is essential!

    Surya Raj Acharya

Nepal will not get even 2100 MW of electricity if Arun 3 model is followed. They also export electricity that is supposed to be given for free to Nepal.

    Ratna Sansar Shrestha

There is a need of Harak Sampang to set priorities in every sector of Nepali society and make all efforts to achieve them. Congratulations to the chief of the city of Dharan, and congratulations to the people of Dharan!

    Leela Mani Paudyal

Leftism has become the root cause of the country’s suffering and the former democratic party Nepali Congress is also playing the role of the left wing’s main supporter. If the true Nepalis do not delay in standing up for the country, Nepal will be saved, otherwise, many types of Zelenskys are being raised as alternatives. Now, to save the country from becoming Ukraine or Afghanistan, the common Nepali people should be alert and organized.

    Devprakash Tripathi

The sign of the economic collapse of Nepal is frightening. But the leaders who are indulging in looting are not interested in that. They are delighted to hear the songs of the hymn singers of this political system.

It is a long-term threat to the economy.

On the said to be “one-on-one meeting”, Doval was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra whereas PM Dahal invited his personal secretary Ganga Dahal, who is also his daughter, to attend the meeting. The Parliamentary Committee held a meeting to discuss the matter of Prime Minister Prachanda’s visit to India, where Foreign Minister NP Saud as well as officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were called.
