    Petroleum price inclines

    Kathmandu, July 1: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of petroleum products effective from early morning today.

    The NOC has clarified that following the new tariff sent by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) the price has been inclined.

    The NOC, however, has not hiked the price of the LPG and aviation fuel.

    The new petrol price in the Kathmandu Valley has been fixed at 167 rupees per litre and the diesel and kerosene price at 157 rupees per litre.

    Parliament is failing in its role of making laws: Chairman Dahal

    Kathmandu, 30 June: National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has said that Parliament is failing in its role of making laws. Addressing the program organized on the occasion of the 66th Parliament Day at the Parliament Building on Sunday, Dahal claimed that even though the Parliament is the best representative of Nepali citizens, it has failed somewhere in making laws and laws for the citizens.

    He said that laws made by parliamentarians will determine where the country will go, and parliamentarians should focus more on lawmaking. He warned that the Parliament ignored to enact laws and laws on time.

    Chair Dahal said that the role of parliamentarians to make the parliament effective is to be serious about the promises made to the Nepali citizens, the current political situation of Nepal, how to advance the entire economy of Nepal in the future and the livelihood of the Nepali people. He said it is important for parliamentarians to think in a way that will benefit the country and the people.

    Oli meets PM Dahal

    Kathmandu, June 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML Chairman KP Sharma had a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Residence Baluwatar today.

    It is understood that there was a discussion between the two power-sharing leaders on the government and the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Bill.

    Earlier on Saturday, the meeting between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML chair Oli held a meeting at Oli’s residence in Balkot. The meeting between Deuba and Oli is seen as meaningful when there are increasing controversies regarding government expansion, budget etc. in the current power equation.

    Kathmandu, June 30: A conference was held in Beijing to mark the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence on June 28. Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech on the significance of the Five Principles, China’s role in global peace and prosperity, safeguarding small and underdeveloped countries’ interests, sovereignty and independence.  To sum up, President Xi’s address focused on China’s policy towards peaceful coexistence of the global society.

    Nepal’s former President Bidya Devi Bhandari was scheduled to attend the conference in Beijing on June 28.

    After our Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal visited New Delhi to attend the oath ceremony of third-time elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sideline talks between Modi and Dahal, things have been changed.

    Modi is learnt to have instructed our PM Dahal not to visit China by high-level dignitaries and not implement the projects under BRI (Belt and Road Initiative).

    After the return of PM Dahal from Delhi, Bhandari, under the instruction of UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli, cancelled her China visit.   

    Last week, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong attended the 16th meeting of the Nepal-China Diplomatic Consultative Mechanism. The Vice Minister, during his stay in Kathmandu, held a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal.

    Dahal’s Secretariat said that during the meeting the Vice Minister expressed concern on the delayed implementation of the projects under the Belt and Road Initiatives.

    On Tuesday, when the 16th meeting of the Nepal-China Diplomatic Consultative Mechanism was taking place, PM Dahal was addressing the House meeting on questions raised by Members of Parliament.

    PM Dahal said to the Parliamentarians that Nepal cannot afford BRI projects under debt. Therefore, the government has initiated talks for the implementation of the BRI projects under grants or soft loans.

    The PM said that the Pokhara International Airport was constructed with around five per cent of interest.

    Earlier, Ambassador Chen Song had informed that the Airport was constructed under a 50% grant and 50% through a soft loan of 1.5%.

    To conclude, the present government, under Indian pressure, is not keen to endorse BRI soon.

    From the PM’s statement in the House meeting also, it makes confirms that the government is avoiding implementation of the BRI soon.

    To avoid BRI, the government is saying that it wants BRI under grant or soft loan only.

    Coalition government jolts after Deuba-Oli meet

    Kathmandu, June 30: Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is worried about the Saturday meeting between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli in the presence of Deuba’s wife and NC MP Arzu Deuba.

    The Deuba couple reached Balkot to meet Oli and held a three-hour-long meeting on Saturday, June 29.

    The Balkot sources informed that Deuba offered the PM’s post to Oli for an NC-UML coalition government toppling the present Dahal-led government.

    Oli is said to be positive on Deuba’s offer, sources said.

    On the other hand, PM Dahal phoned Oli this morning and asked to manage time for a meeting between PM Dahal and Oli today.

    Since the file of fake Bhutanese refugee case has been opened by the Central Investigation Bureau, Deuba has become worried, reports state. It is said that the case may reach up to Arzu, analyses have opined.

    Kathmandu, June 30: The Ekikrit Samajwadi Party led by Madhav Nepal, a splinter of the UML, is holding its national convention beginning today.

    The inaugural session of the national convention is taking place at the Nepal Academy in Kathmandu today.

    Madhav Nepal is interested in leading the party, whereas, Ghanashyam Bhushal, with the support of Jhalanath Khanal, may challenge Nepal to the post of the party chairman.

    The Party has a strength of ten MPs in the parliament. The Party was unable to get the status of a national party in the past election.

    Kathmandu, June 28: C.P. Mainali, general secretary of the Maoist Leninist (ML) Party, said that foreigners serve their interests by using our political parties.

    Addressing an interaction program organized by the Pushpalal Study Society in Kathmandu today, Mainali claimed that foreigners had initiated a strategic goal to bring Nepal under their control.

    Mainali further said that the communist parties in the country have to move forward by reviewing their past acts to free Nepal from foreigners’ design.

    Mainali also said that there is no situation for introducing the people’s proletariat, however, if the communists become serious about their responsibilities, they can develop a path for socialism.

    Mainali opined that there is a need for self-correction by the communist parties to fail foreigners’ grand design for bringing the country under their grip.

    Kathmandu, June 29: Today is Asar 15, popularly known as the day for eating curd and bitten rice. Also, the day is observed as the national paddy day encouraging farmers for paddy farming.

    Although the government observes National Paddy Farming Day with big fanfare, the country relies on imports of paddy from abroad due to the lack of modern equipment, fertilizer irrigation and other facilities for the farmers.

    Ex-home minister’s son Prateek arrested on fake Bhutanese refugee scam

    Kathmandu, June 29: Prateek Thapa, son of ex-home minister and UML vice chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa is arrested by the Nepal Police from Baidha on Friday.

    Prateek, went underground after the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police opened a file on the fake Bhutanese refugee scandal.

    Even when the then home minister Balkrishna Khand, deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and other senior officials were arrested on the charge of developing a plan for sending Nepalis to the USA under covered with fake Bhutanese refugees, the Police was unable to arrest Prateek.

    Prateek, personal secretary of the then-home minister Rambahadur Thapa, was out of police reach since the CIB opened the file.

    Prateek was on the list of disappeared for the last 14 months.

    The Police said that Prateek was hiding in unknown places in Siliguri and Deharadoon in India and secretly visiting Kathmandu time and again.

    The Police were informed that for the last three months, he was hiding in Kathmandu. Following the information acquired by the Police, he was arrested from Kapan in Kathmandu.

    Prateek was accused of facilitating the file for sending Nepali youths in sending the USA as fake Bhutanese refugees by taking cash when his father was the home minister.

    The CIB is preparing to file a case against Prateek on the charge of fraud and developing fake documents by misusing government documents.

    On Sunday, the Police are preparing to present Prateek at the District Court for keeping him under the police custody for further investigation.
