Kathmandu, Sept 21: The government has begun printing driving licenses through the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS), which came into effect on the first day of Shrawan.
The Department of Transport Management, under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, said the new system aims to ease the pressure from applicants and address the long-standing delays in license printing.
The ministry said the system should make it quicker and easier to obtain a new license or renew an existing one. Applicants’ details uploaded to EDLVRS go directly to the security printing facility, which prints the licenses and sends them by post to the relevant transport service offices.
“This will resolve the longstanding problems with license printing and distribution,” the ministry said.
In the first phase, 3,081 licenses for applicants in Madhesh Province have been printed and sent by post to the relevant offices for distribution.
Provincial governments can arrange license printing themselves by signing agreements with the security printing facility. The ministry said the Madhesh government has done so and is managing its own printing.
Lumbini Province also signed an agreement with the facility on Friday, Asoj 2, or September 18, and began printing licenses.
Where a province has not signed an agreement, the ministry said licenses will be printed centrally to help manage demand and reduce delays.
