Electricity Supply Shortage
The stalling of the Arun project and the virtual absence of new projects designed to general electricity in the near future is said to have resulted in a shortage of five crore units this winter making load-shedding inevitable.
The NEA is unlikely to meet this shortage through resort to diesel generation since this would mean a minimum of six rupees per unit additional cost.
Absence of any new project in the immediate pipeline make projections that the country will be five croer unites short in electricity demands and meeting this demand with diesel generators would mean an additional cost of a thousand million rupees largely in convertible currencies for fuel imports.
