China pays tribute to Gyirong disaster victims

Kathmandu, Sept 1: A special memorial ceremony was held Tuesday morning in Gyirong, located in China’s southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region, to remember those killed or missing in the devastating landslide that struck the area.

The massive landslide, carrying large amounts of mud and debris, struck on August 27 and caused significant loss of life and property.

According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, local officials and residents attended the memorial ceremony and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster.

Search and rescue operations for missing people, along with relief distribution, continue in and around the Gyirong border area.

While rescue and relief efforts remain underway, local authorities organised the memorial to honour those affected by the disaster.
