Kathmandu, Aug 30: A landslide triggered by last week’s disaster along the Nepal-China border has created a barrier lake covering an area roughly equivalent to 14 standard football fields, according to Chinese media.
China’s state-run broadcaster China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported the information, citing monitoring data collected by the Anneng Group through August 29.
The landslide blocked the waterway and formed a lake covering approximately 100,000 square metres, an area comparable to around 14 standard football fields.
Despite its size, the lake is currently under control, CGTN reported, citing data from the Anneng Group.
Meanwhile, authorities have identified a second barrier lake, referred to as Barrier Lake 2, located around five kilometres upstream from the first lake.
Following the devastating flood on August 26, Chinese authorities have continued monitoring and assessing the area for potential additional risks.
