Kathmandu, August 28: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce has handed over 17 surveillance drones to the Police Headquarters to support the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of citizens affected by the Rasuwa floods disaster.
Nepal Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President and Chairman of the Disaster Management Council Deepak Kumar Malhotra visited the Police Headquarters and handed over the drones to the Nepal Police.
The drones handed over include two Mavic 4 Pro, five Air 3S FMC RC 2, two Mini 5 Pro Plus FMC RC 2, six Lito 1 Plus FMC R3, and two Lito X1 FMC R2 drones.
The handover ceremony was attended by Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, Nepal Chamber of Commerce Director General Devendra Lamichhane and Senior Superintendent of Police Damodar Kandel.
The Chamber said the surveillance drones are expected to make search and rescue operations in disaster-affected areas more effective, faster and technology-driven.
As access to people is limited in areas with difficult terrain and high risks, the drones are expected to help monitor affected areas, assess the situation and coordinate rescue operations.
To further enhance the effectiveness of rescue operations, the Chamber had earlier sent one drone with a payload capacity of 50 kilograms and one surveillance drone to Bidur Municipality.
Similarly, the Chamber has also provided 125 power banks to help maintain communications and operate essential electrical equipment in the affected areas.
The Chamber has also launched a campaign to collect and distribute relief materials for disaster-affected citizens. It said it immediately provided cash and in-kind assistance on August 27 to affected districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, and will continue its relief campaign and assistance efforts.
