Kathmandu, August 27: Former King Gyanendra Shah has expressed sorrow over the damage caused by the floods in Rasuwa. A message issued by the former King’s Secretariat for Communications stated that the search for missing citizens needs to be intensified immediately.
“We are deeply saddened by the immense damage caused to markets, settlements and residents, roads, bridges, hydropower projects and other physical infrastructure, as well as agricultural land, in the riverside areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan and Nawalparasi after a devastating flood triggered by the bursting of a glacial lake in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region entered the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers,” the message said.
The message extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace of those who lost their lives in the disaster. It also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“It is necessary to immediately intensify the search for citizens who are missing, including security personnel,” the message said. “We urge all concerned authorities to ensure that there is no shortfall in search, rescue, relief and medical treatment efforts during this tragic hour of natural disaster.”
The King also urged the government, security agencies, civil servants, local governments, social organizations and the general public to provide whatever assistance they can from their respective areas to make rescue and relief operations effective.
“Since a natural disaster occurring in a neighboring country sharing a border can directly affect another country as well, we believe that all of us need to recognize that damage from such disasters could be reduced more effectively through joint trilateral efforts rather than separate efforts,” former King Shah’s message said.
