Deputy Speaker Thakur files complaint against journalist Shrestha

Kathmandu, Aug 18: Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ruby Kumari Thakur has filed a complaint against journalist Kishor Shrestha.

Thakur filed the complaint against Shrestha at the District Police Range, Lalitpur, on Monday.

Superintendent of Police Tul Bahadur Karki, chief of the District Police Range, confirmed the complaint.

“A complaint has been received. We have not yet reviewed all the details. It is under process,” he said.

Karki did not disclose the specific offence mentioned in the complaint.

Thakur had publicly objected to a report published in Jan Aastha Weekly, saying it had defamed her. She had also filed a complaint with the Press Council Nepal.

Earlier on Monday, journalist Shrestha had been released on personal recognizance following an order from the Supreme Court.

Hearing a habeas corpus petition, a bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal had ordered that Shrestha be kept on personal recognizance while the investigation continued.
