Kathmandu, August 16: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has arrived in Kathmandu at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel.
He arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon for a four-day visit to Nepal.
At a special ceremony to be held at the President’s Office on Monday, President and Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to confer the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on General Seth.
A bilateral meeting between the two army chiefs is also scheduled to take place at the Nepal Army Headquarters on Monday.
The military relationship between Nepal and India is one of the close and historic ties that the two countries have maintained for a long time.
The armies of both countries have been engaging in high-level visits, joint military exercises, training and exchanges of experience.
In particular, the tradition of conferring the honorary rank of General of one country’s army on the army chief of the other reflects the special relationship between the armed forces of the two countries.
The tradition of conferring the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army on the Nepal Army chief and the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army on the Indian Army chief began in 1950.
It is regarded as an important symbol of the friendly relations and mutual respect between Nepal and India.
