Kathmandu, August 16: The national gathering of the dissident faction of the Nepali Congress, held in Kathmandu, has concluded. The gathering, which began on August 14, concluded on Sunday after passing five different proposals.
The gathering has maintained that the Central Working Committee elected by the 14th General Convention itself should organize the 15th General Convention. The dissident faction has stated that the 15th General Convention should be held under the chairmanship of outgoing party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. The gathering expressed firm confidence that the party can remain united and make the 15th General Convention possible.
The decision states that, until the 15th General Convention, the national gathering and conference coordinator will coordinate the party’s necessary regular activities under Deuba’s direction. Leaders Shekhar Koirala and Purna Bahadur Khadka were absent from the closing session of the gathering.
The gathering assigned leader Shashank Koirala the responsibility of taking forward all activities related to the General Convention. The gathering made these decisions, including the decision to proceed to the General Convention under Deuba’s leadership.
- The 15th General Convention will be held on the basis of a decision and under the organization of the Central Working Committee elected by the 14th General Convention, and it will be conducted under the chairmanship of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. The conference expresses its firm confidence that the party will remain united under his leadership and make the 15th General Convention possible.
Until the 15th General Convention, the national gathering and conference coordinator will continue to coordinate the party’s necessary regular activities under the direction of the party president.

In view of the need to preserve the religious tolerance, social harmony and religious freedom of every individual and religious community that have prevailed in Nepal, as well as the responsibility to protect the Hindu, Buddhist, Kirat and Prakrit religious traditions that have existed since ancient times, the conference commits to advancing the country by recognizing Sanatan Dharma as part of the nation’s identity.
- Necessary amendments to the current Constitution in accordance with public expectations will be addressed through dialogue with all concerned, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
