Kathmandu, Aug 16: One person has died, three are missing and nine others have been injured after landslides triggered by heavy rainfall struck Risang in Bheri Municipality 2, Jajarkot, damaging homes and temporary structures.
The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Kedar Karki. He suffered injuries to his limbs and body and was initially treated at Jajarkot District Hospital before being referred to Nepalgunj. Police said he died while being taken there.
The landslides began after continuous rain from around 4 pm on Saturday. Authorities have deployed a 50-member rescue team comprising personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
A two-storey, six-room stone-and-mud house belonging to Purna Bahadur BK of nearby Syala was destroyed. His five-member family has taken shelter with relatives. Two unoccupied temporary tin sheds belonging to Bhairavi KC were also destroyed.
Among the injured, 60-year-old Ram Bahadur Shahi was working at a metal workshop when a landslide struck, injuring his chest, head and hand. He was referred to Nepalgunj in serious condition after initial treatment.
Workshop operator Siddhi Bahadur Kami, 45, suffered a back injury and is receiving treatment at Jajarkot District Hospital.
Bhadrakali Karki, 57, of Chisapani sustained injuries to several parts of her body and was referred to Surkhet in serious condition.
Manbir Chadara, 45, of Daurikanda suffered a head injury and is being treated at a local medical facility. His condition is moderate.
Manisha BK, 16, also of Daurikanda, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at a local medical facility.
