Kathmandu, Aug 14: The Supreme Court has ordered police to produce journalist Kishor Shrestha before the court on Monday along with the materials seized from him. The order was issued by a single bench of Justice Balkrishna Dhakal after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed on Shrestha’s detention.
Shrestha’s wife, Saraswati, had filed the habeas corpus petition challenging his alleged unlawful detention.
Shrestha, who was arrested on Wednesday night, has been transferred from the custody of the District Police Range, Bhadra Kali, to the Maharajgunj Police Circle.
The District Police Range said Shrestha was transferred to the Maharajgunj Police Circle on Thursday evening to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of the case, as the district police office was facing overcrowding in its detention facilities.
The Supreme Court’s order requires authorities to present Shrestha along with the electronic devices and other materials seized during his arrest and subsequent searches.
