Kathmandu, July 31: The government has agreed to launch an immediate investigation into the legal status of the madrasa in Dewanganj, Sunsari, as part of a seven-point agreement reached between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the families of two men killed in the recent violence.
The agreement was signed on Thursday between the ministry and the families of Om Prakash Mehta and Jayaprakash Mehta, who were killed during the July 25 violence in Kaptanganj, Ward 3 of Dewanganj Rural Municipality.
Under the agreement, the government will declare both victims as martyrs, provide Rs 1 million in compensation to each bereaved family, and conduct an impartial and effective investigation into the incident before taking legal action against those found responsible.
The government has also committed to immediately investigating the legal status of the madrasa and related issues, providing employment to one qualified member from each victim’s family, and promptly implementing the recommendations of the investigation committee formed to probe the incident.
The agreement also provides for the construction of a memorial park in coordination with the local government at a suitable location within the rural municipality in memory of the two victims.
The last rites of Om Prakash Mehta and Jayaprakash Mehta are scheduled to be performed at 2 pm on Friday.
