The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road has kicked off in the spring city of Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China.
The theme of the forum is ‘Shared Media Responsibility for Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilisations’ jointly organized by the People’s Daily, Communist Party of China Yunnan Provincial Committee and People’s Government of Yunnan. It is an annual flagship event of China’s popular People’s Daily. It has been a major media gathering for the past twelve years.

Zheng Jisnbang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, stated that Belt and Road Initiative, a mega project of high-quality development for the mutual benefit of entire mankind, was propounded by President Xi Jinping.
He said seeking media cooperation, “BRI is for win- win cooperation, media are vital windows of spreading factual news and information for the broader benefit of our peoples.”
Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Yunnan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Yunnan Province, Wang Ning, asserted that BRI is a widely supported project that is people-centric and focused on improving the livelihood of the people of BRI member countries and beyond. Highlighting the announcements made by President Xi about collective efforts in ensuring a just, stable and rule-based international order, dialogue over confrontation, partnership over alliance and Global Governance Initiative at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, he urged media organizations and journalists to uphold professionalism, dispel misinformation and disinformation, promote cohesion and positive energy.
President of People’s Daily Yu Shaoliang laid emphasis on promoting pragmatic cooperation, balanced reporting, tell compelling stories about BRI and deepening people-to-people connectivity. Foster solidarity, maintain communication and in-depth cooperation and friendship for the shared future of humanity.
Chen Jianwen, Editor-in-Chief of People’s Daily, is referring to President Xi’s vision of opening up new avenues for shared development and practical cooperation with the media in building consensus.
The forum is attended by 200 media professionals from 120 media organizations of 87 countries around the world.
People’s Daily is the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, one of the most influential newspapers in China. With the aim to promote media cooperation and build connections, the forum has grown into a high-end dialogue and communication platform for policy-makers, media practitioners, entrepreneurs and scholars. A series of interactive sessions exploring diverse topics such as the Media’s role in a fluid international landscape, Media opportunities and challenges in the AI era, and Regional Collaboration and Global Communication are being attended by a select group of media leaders and decision-makers from various countries. The forum aligns with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to enhance economic cooperation and connectivity among countries along the ancient Silk Road, contributing to the promotion of cultural and civilizational exchanges among peoples.
The forum, with participation from diverse media entities, showcases the positive practices of the Belt and Road Initiative and underscores its contribution to global development. The forum serves as a significant platform for dialogue and exchange among media professionals from BRI member countries.
