Construct contract agreement of project under MCA-Nepal

Kathmandu, May: MCA-Nepal awarded the contract for the construction of a 400 kV new Butwal substation in Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta Paschim) district of Lumbini Province to Linkson India Pvt Ltd and signed an agreement with the said company.

The construction of the substation will be completed within the contract period of 39 months. In the signing ceremony held in Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta Paschim), Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising, US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson, local officials and elected representatives were present.

Addressing the event, American Ambassador Thompson said, “The American government is committed to cooperating with the Nepalese government to ensure that the compact is useful for addressing Nepal’s energy needs.” 

The 400 KV new Butwal substation will improve Nepal’s power transmission capacity, providing reliable and affordable electricity for domestic consumption, expanding commercial and industrial organizations and cross-border electronic trade.

Kulman Ghising, executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority, said, “This 400 kV substation is a priority structure of the authority and it will help the existing 220 kV substations to boost the cross-border energy trade in the region significantly.” 

In the program, the Executive Director of MCA-Nepal, Khadga Bahadur Bista, highlighted the overall progress being made during the implementation of the MCC Nepal Compact.

He said, “MCA-Nepal is rapidly advancing the entire work related to the construction of transmission lines and substations under the power transmission project. We are in the final stages of the procurement process to sign the contract for the construction of the remaining two substations.

MCA-Nepal is constructing one substation each at Ratmatema in Nuwakot district and Damauli in Tanahun district as part of the power transmission project which received financial support from the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the Government of Nepal and the investment of the Government of Nepal.
