Women stand as the pioneers of a nation. The report of the Secretary General of the United Nations states that women constitute 50% of human resources, which is the greatest human resource next only to men having great potential. It has been said that women act as pillars or backbones for organizing a family systematically and sustainably. They provide care, support, and nurturing to their families (through their various roles, be it a wife, leader, mother, etc.) which ultimately leads to creating happy families in society. But there’s also a bitter fact that, for centuries, women have been relegated to the sidelines, subjected to discrimination and marginalization. However, in recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of women in a family and society.
The significance of women in organizing a family can be elaborated on in the following points:
Acting as an administrator and leader of the household:
For an organized family life, a well-ordered, disciplined household is essential. Women play a key role in the preparation and serving of meals, laundering, furnishing, and maintenance of the house. As administrators, they organize various social functions in the family for social development. By acting as directors of recreation, they plan different recreational activities to meet the needs of old and young members of the family.
Contribution to the education sector of the family:
Education is a major factor in the overall development of families. The education of women is mainly important because it is linked to improved health outcomes & increased economic growth. Educated women can create a ripple effect which benefits everyone by enriching their families with their educational knowledge.
Contribution to the economic sector of the family:
Women are vital contributors to the economy of a family. They have also been proven to be successful entrepreneurs and are starting their own businesses at a higher rate than men; hence creating a sustainable financial status of a family in a society.
Contribution to the emotional bonding among the family members:
Women act as a bridge to creating and strengthening the emotional bondage between the family members. They also play a key role in maintaining peace and order in the household. They are the ones with whom the family members can turn for love, sympathy, understanding, comfort, and recognition. Women are also the symbol of purity, faithfulness, and devotion.
Acting as a living Goddess by rendering selfless service:
Especially in our Nepali society, women are also referred to as the living Goddess because they provide selfless service to their family members. They prioritize the necessities of their family members first and then only they look for their own necessities which is also the beauty and essence of the women in the family.
In other words, it’s a privilege for families to have women playing the lead role in every step of growth of the families. Moreover, it’s a known fact that women indeed act as the key factor in organizing the family cause, women are the ones who have sustained the growth of their families, and societies, and moulded the future of nations.
