Will the cabinet reshuffle take place soon?

Kathmandu, February 3: Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal has been planning to change his cabinet members for the last month, but he has not been able to make a change in his cabinet.

PM Dahal is not satisfied with the performance of the ministers in his cabinet. Therefore, at the beginning of his second year in office, he wanted to change the entire set of ministers, giving opportunities to the new faces; however, Nepali congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba didn’t give consent to Dahal.

Deuba said that it would be difficult to manage his party if the cabinet is reshuffled before the National Assembly elections and also before the Nepali Congress Mahasamiti.

The NA election has already been conducted and the Mahasamiti meeting, which is also known as a mini-national assembly as there will be the participation of the district and local representatives of the party, is a Herculaneum task to face the central leadership. Therefore, Deuba didn’t want to make any vital decisions before the Mahasamiti meeting.

As other supreme leaders from the parties in the coalition government are maintaining a “wait and see” attitude, PM Dahal is unable to reshuffle his cabinet.

The NC Mahasamiti meeting is taking place on February 19. Until that time, Deuba doesn’t want to make any vital decisions.

If the cabinet is reshuffled, it can be possible only after the NC Mahasamiti meeting, or say, in March.

Meanwhile, when PM Dahal spoke about the cabinet change, he was facing pressure from within the party. Those who are in the government are lobbying to retain the post, whereas those who are outside the government are putting pressure on Dahal for their assignments.

Those ministers in Dahal’s cabinet are claiming that there is no possibility of a cabinet reshuffle.

PM Dahal is not happy with the DPM and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat and Foreign Minister NP Saud.

In fact, PM Dahal is trying to exchange the finance portfolio and home portfolio. Dahal plans to reward Barshaman Pun as the finance minister by giving a home portfolio, which is now with the Maoist Center to the Nepali Congress.

There is the possibility of assigning Krishna Sitaula as the DPM and home minister if the Maoist Center denies offering the National Assembly chairman’s post to the NC.
