JN.1 sub-variant of COVID-19 found in Nepal

Kathmandu, January 9: A new sub-variant of COVID-19 infection, which is spreading in some countries of the world, has also been found in Nepal.

The Ministry of Health and Population said in a statement on Monday that the new sub-variant JN.1 has also been found in Nepal.

According to Ministry spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, 16 samples collected from different age groups from different parts of the country are new sub-variant JN.1 in seven people in the gene sequencing conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory.

The Ministry has urged all health desks and health offices at the entry point to continue the necessary screening and surveillance given the infection.
